Clarendon and the other rural communities of Howardwick and Hedley offer several activities throughout the year. If you think there’s nothing to do in a small town, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find many opportunities such as:

• The annual Chamber Awards banquet
• The Chance Mark Jones Roar & Run 5K
• The annual Saints’ Roost Celebration, Howardwick Hoedown, and Hedley Cotton Festival
• The REFZ Ride for Kids Poker Run
• Live music at multiple events during the year
• Intercollegiate Rodeos
• NJCAA athletic events at Clarendon College, including volleyball, baseball, softball, and basketball games
• Theatrical performances at Calrendon College
• Concerts and live performances at the Mulkey Theatre

Education

Education was one of the founding principles of Clarendon in 1878, and the town became known as “The Athens of the Panhandle” after Clarendon College opened in 1898. Today, Clarendon College offers general education classes as well as technical training in a wide range of professions, providing opportunities for local citizens and job training for companies looking to hire. Public schools in Donley County have a strong record to stand on, and a strong home-school community is also active here.
